My name is Kuki McArdle and I am (possibly one of) your child’s literacy teacher this year. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and give you some information about literacy class this year. I earned my Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and completed my Master’s degree in Administration & Educational Leadership through Aurora University. I am beginning my eighteenth year of teaching; my seventh year of teaching at Hadley, where I have taught both 6th and 7th grade literacy. I am looking forward to working with your child and sharing a great year with wonderful new experiences.
One of my literacy blocks this year has the advantage of having resource support as a co-taught class. Aly Gray joins our class as a 6th grade special education resource teacher. She holds a K-12 Learning and Behavior Specialist certificate from Illinois State University. This is Aly’s third year at Hadley. She and I are excited to be able to provide such a supportive experience for our students this year!
As I have explained to your child in class, I expect each and every one of them to do their best and begin the journey to self-advocate and become more independent. Asking questions, getting help when needed, staying organized, and completing the required assignments are all a part of the learning process and necessary for success. I encourage the students to see me as soon as possible when they are having trouble so we can work through it together before they get too far behind. The students’ daily work habits are directly correlated to their achievement (graded work) and will be stressed with as much importance. I strongly believe that when the parents, teachers, and students work together, successful learning takes place. Please encourage your child to ask questions when they do not understand something. If there is not time in class, they should make arrangements to see me before or after school, or may contact me through email.
Open communication is essential! Please do not hesitate to contact me anytime during the year. I welcome the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress. The best way to contact me is through e-mail, but you may always leave a voicemail if you prefer. I will try to do my best to reply within 24 hours.
